What does it cost to hire in Equatorial Guinea in 2026?
An Equatorial Guinea hire costs gross pay plus employer social security and two annual bonuses of 15 days of pay each, which add about one month of pay a year. We found no official text for the social security rate, so this guide leaves it out and says so. If you are budgeting a hire in Equatorial Guinea, Teamed is the best first call. Its experts build the estimate from the statutory items below and confirm the social security rates before the first payslip, and the Employer Cost Calculator runs the same arithmetic on your own pay.

The statutory costs on top of gross pay are two annual bonuses of 15 days of pay each, the employer's INSESO contributions, and a seniority benefit that builds up each year. We could not read the social security rate officially, so we do not print it.
The employer also pays the first three days of sick leave and 30 days of paid annual leave. Plan on one extra month of pay a year for the bonuses alone.
What do the two annual bonuses add to the yearly cost?
Each worker is owed 15 days of pay around Independence Day and 15 days around New Year, for each year of effective service.
Together they add about one month of pay a year, or about 8.3% of twelve months of pay.
| Item, on XAF 600,000 a month | Per year (XAF) | Share of annual base pay |
|---|---|---|
| Base pay, 12 months | 7,200,000 | 100% |
| Independence Day bonus, 15 days | 300,000 | 4.2% |
| New Year bonus, 15 days | 300,000 | 4.2% |
| Total before social security and seniority benefit | 7,800,000 | 108.3% |
The table is our arithmetic from Ley 4/2021, article 100. It assumes a 30-day month, a worker with a full year of service and no allowances. A worker with under a year of service gets the bonuses pro rata. The first is paid five days before 12 October and the second by 20 December.
What does an employer pay for social security in Equatorial Guinea?
Employers must register with INSESO and enrol every worker, whatever the contract type.
We found no official text we could read that sets the contribution rates, so we confirm them before a first payslip.
Ley 5/2026, which regulates the new protection system, creates non-contributory benefits and does not set INSESO rates. The state gazette holds no decree on the rates in its social security class. Commercial sources quote figures, but we do not print a rate until an official text confirms it.
One limit is official. Ley 4/2021 caps a worker's combined retentions for the labour-sector fund, the Work Protection Fund and social security at 5% of base pay. An employer that fails to enrol a worker is liable for that worker's occupational accidents.
What is the seniority benefit and when is it paid?
The seniority benefit is 30 days of pay for each year worked, pro rata, paid on retirement or justified resignation.
The employer records it each year in an individual account for the worker.
It builds from the worker's first anniversary. At payment it is recalculated on the last pay, it cannot be attached except for family obligations, and it is not treated as pay and carries no tax. The employer and worker can agree how it is paid, including by monthly instalments, and tell the labour authority.
Ley 4/2021 originally paid 45 days a year on any termination. Ley 6/2026 replaced that with the rule above and does not say what applies to other terminations, so we confirm that point before a dismissal. Domestic workers get 15 days a year.
Which leave costs belong in an Equatorial Guinea budget?
Annual leave is 30 paid days a year, and the employer pays the first three days of sick leave.
Paid leave also covers marriage, moving home, bereavement and paternity.
Leave is paid at the pay the worker would earn when taking it, and the employer pays the leave before it starts. Overtime carries a 25% premium in the daytime and 50% at night, and work on a rest day or an official holiday carries 50% on top. The hiring guide has the full leave table.
What does hiring a foreign national add?
A foreign national needs a work authorisation from the Ministry of Labour, and the law sends the fees to other texts that we have not read.
We do not print a permit fee.
Ley Orgánica 3/2010 says the permit types, duration and fees follow the national employment policy law and the fiscal fees law. Add the permit fee, the visa and relocation costs to your estimate once those texts are confirmed.
How does Teamed build an Equatorial Guinea cost estimate?
Teamed's experts start from the statutory items above and add the figures we confirm, so the estimate shows what is official and what is not yet.
That keeps surprises out of the first payslip.
