What should you ask an employer of record before you sign?
An employer of record (EOR) is a company that employs your people on your behalf in a country where you have no entity. Send each question to every provider on your shortlist, ask for the answers in writing, and tick a line when you hold the written answer. Put the answers side by side before you decide.
Currency and FX
Fees and the invoice
The deposit
The contract and how you leave
Employment and payroll
Service, data and proof
That is the whole checklist.
Why ask for the answers in writing?
A sales conversation can leave you with a warm impression and no figures. An answer in writing can be checked, compared with another provider's, and held against the agreement later.
The questions on money come first because they are the costs that are hardest to see. Teamed calls everything you pay for in global employment that is not the thing you wanted the Hidden Global Employment Tax. These questions help you find it before you sign.
What does Teamed say on the money questions?
On currency, Teamed charges zero FX markup. On the deposit, Teamed holds one month's gross salary, refundable, to protect the employee's pay. It is not a fee.
Questions people ask
What should I ask an employer of record before I sign?
Ask about currency and FX, every fee, the deposit, how you leave, the employee's contract, who answers HR and legal questions, and where your people's data is held. Get each answer in writing.
Why does the FX markup matter?
Your people are paid in local currency, and you pay in yours, so each payment is converted. A markup in the exchange rate is a cost that does not show up as a fee line. Ask for it as a number and compare it with the market rate.
How many providers should I ask?
Ask at least three the same questions, so you can compare like with like. Send all of them the same list, and score the written answers side by side.
This checklist is a planning aid, not legal advice. Where a step depends on a country's rules, check the country guide or take advice.
